RUJAK BUAH CAMPUR- Traditional Indonesian Fruit Salad
Rujak Buah is a traditional Indonesian fruit salad with a sweet, spicy, and tangy dressing. It's a delightful combination of various fruits mixed with a spicy peanut sauce. Here's a simple recipe to make Rujak Buah:
Ingredients:
For the Rujak Buah Sauce:
- 100g roasted peanuts
- 2-3 red chilies, seeded and chopped (adjust to taste)
- 1-2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon tamarind paste
- 2 tablespoons palm sugar or brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon sweet soy sauce (kecap manis)
- Salt to taste
For the Fruit Salad:
- Assorted tropical fruits such as mangoes, pineapples, green apples, guavas, papayas, star fruits, jicamas, cucumbers, etc., sliced or cut into bite-sized pieces
- Optional: Crispy fried tofu or tempeh, cut into cubes
Instructions:
Prepare the Rujak Buah Sauce:
- In a food processor or blender, grind the roasted peanuts until they form a coarse powder.
- Add chopped red chilies, minced garlic, tamarind paste, palm sugar, sweet soy sauce, and a pinch of salt. Blend until everything is well combined and you get a thick, smooth sauce. Adjust the seasoning to taste, adding more sugar for sweetness or more chilies for spiciness.
Assemble the Fruit Salad:
- Place the assorted fruits and optional tofu/tempeh in a large mixing bowl.
- Pour the prepared Rujak Buah Sauce over the fruits and tofu/tempeh. Toss gently until all the fruits are evenly coated with the sauce.
Serve immediately or chill in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
Before serving, garnish the Rujak Buah with additional chopped peanuts or fried shallots for extra crunch and flavor, if desired.
